Survey

This page provides further information relating to a postal survey of faculty members in schools of architecture in the UK and Ireland. This information below is intended for recipients of this postal survey only.

The survey is the first phase of research in the PhD studies of James Benedict Brown, a doctoral candidate at the School of Planning, Architecture and Civil Engineering (SPACE) at Queen’s University Belfast (QUB). James is supervised by Prof. Ruth Morrow and Keith McAllister.

The survey will be distributed to faculty members of every RIBA validated school of architecture in the United Kingdom, and every RIAI validated school in the Republic of Ireland in April 2010. It has been deliberately sent to up to three named members of each school’s faculty, namely the head of school and the directors of undergraduate and postgraduate (RIBA part I and RIBA part II courses or equivalent) taught courses in architecture. The survey has been designed so as not to take long to complete. It has been supplied in a pre-paid and pre-addressed format to minimise the time required to complete it and has been sent to multiple members of the same faculties to ensure the greatest chance of all schools being represented.

Neither completion of the survey, nor response to the third question naming a colleague, commits either the respondent or any other faculty member to any further involvement in the research. Respondents or those named in the response to the third question may be contacted by telephone, e-mail or letter at a later date with an invitation to participate and a clear description of what would be involved will be provided.

Queries relating to the research may be made to James by e-mail:

Thank you for your time.
